GENERAL PLANNING FRAMEWORK
Windows & doors:
connect the next steps.
Put the scope, sequence, purchases and money in one plan. Keep assumptions separate from confirmed requirements.
Measure and order early
Windows and exterior doors are usually made to order with lead times of several weeks. Confirm measurements with the installer and connect the order date to the installation stage in your purchase calendar.
Same size or bigger?
Replacing a unit in the same opening is often treated differently from enlarging an opening, which can be structural work needing a permit. Record which applies to each opening and confirm with the authority, especially in heritage areas.
Check energy and safety requirements
Energy-performance ratings, safety glazing near doors and floors, and escape-window sizes in bedrooms may be regulated. Ask the supplier and the authority which requirements apply to your openings.
Plan the day of removal
Each opening is exposed while a unit is swapped. Agree how many units are replaced per day, weather protection and interior trim repair in advance.
These are general workflow suggestions, not a construction method, design, code interpretation or local cost estimate. Template durations are illustrative and have not been reviewed for your property. Ask qualified professionals and the responsible authority to confirm what applies.
