GENERAL PLANNING FRAMEWORK
Solar panels:
connect the next steps.
Put the scope, sequence, purchases and money in one plan. Keep assumptions separate from confirmed requirements.
Check the roof before the panels
Panels last decades. Confirm the roof's remaining life and structure before installation; replacing a roof later means removing and reinstalling the array.
Approvals come in layers
Solar may need a building or planning approval, an electrical permit and a utility interconnection agreement. Heritage and conservation areas often have extra limits. Record each as its own checkpoint.
Size from your use, not the roof
Ask installers to size the system from your electricity use and the roof's orientation and shading. This tool estimates how many panels fit, not how much energy they will produce.
Keep incentive and warranty paperwork
Rebates, tax credits and net-metering programs have deadlines and documentation rules. Record warranties for panels, inverter and workmanship at handover.
These are general workflow suggestions, not a construction method, design, code interpretation or local cost estimate. Template durations are illustrative and have not been reviewed for your property. Ask qualified professionals and the responsible authority to confirm what applies.
